Welcome to Inari, dear traveller!

Our friendly reindeer are waiting for you to come and meet
them. They eat gently off your hand, love being photographed, and generally enjoy being the center of attention.

We think our home is the most beautiful place on the earth and want to share it with travelers all around the world. We invite you to our home by the Lake Muddus, where our ancestors have fished for centuries.

We offer 1, 2 and 3 hours programmes, which you can read more about simply by scrolling down. We can alter the programmes according to your interests, and it is possible to organize private visits or visits for larger groups.

Our reindeers live in the forest close to our home but please make a reservation with a phone call or email couple days beforehand to make sure they are home.

You can always call and ask, if we can arrange the visit with a short notice! In the summer, we try to organize visits especially on Tuesdays and Fridays.

One hour programme: 
Meeting the reindeer 
 

During your visit you will discover the daily and seasonal lives of the reindeer. You can feed and take photos of reindeer. In addition to meeting the reindeer, we will also show you our collection of reindeer antlers. Did you know you can learn the history of an individual simply from seeing its anters? 

Reindeer have been vital to the people of the North. They have provided both food and warm clothing. In addition, they were important for transportation.

Two hour programme:
Traditional handicrafts and meeting the reindeer

In addition to meeting and learning about the reindeer, I will tell you about the history of our family and home, and how we live today here in Inari.

You will also gain an understanding of traditional handicrafts. 

I demonstrate step by step how reindeer skins are transformed into a warm pair of shoes. You will find out more about the traditional way of hide-scraping (a leather handling method) and winter footwear creation. Try what it feels like to wear a pair of traditional Sámi shoes!

I will also tell how local plants can be turned to wool dyes and how they can be used afterwards to make beautiful home-made blankets, socks and mittens.

Three hour programme:
Visiting our traditional Inari home 

We invite you to join us for the meeting of the reindeer and traditional handicrafts (as described in the first and second programmes) as well as visiting our home. 

Sit down, relax, and join us in our house, which was built 70 years ago and is still furnished with original furniture.

Over a fresh cup of coffee and home-baked deserts and snacks we can chat about what life is like in Inari. We can also discuss the role nature plays in our daily lives and our nearly self-sufficient lifestyle.
